Excursion "Medeu-Shymbulak".

Medeu skating rink is one of the main sightseeing and favorite places of Almaty. Medeu is located at a height of about 1 691 meters above the sea level and in 20 minutes drive from the center of Almaty. The location in the valley, surrounded by mountains and pine forest, charms everybody with its uniqueness. Ice cover of the skating rink of about 10.5 thousand square meters allows sportsmen to reach perfect sliding and to set world records. Here more than 200 world records have been set in various distances since the opening of this complex. One can try to go up 842 stairs. And the last step is the top of the dam.

The capacity of the complex is about 8500 seats and about 3000 people can be on the ice rink at the same time.

Shymbulak is a popular ski resort in Kazakhstan near Almaty (25 km from the center of Almaty). The complex is located in a Zailiyskiy Alatau gorge above the Medeu complex. The altitude range of the ski resort complex is from 2260 meters up to 3163 meters above the sea level. Ski tracks meet the requirements of International Ski Federation (FIS).

The average temperature is +20 0C in summer and -7 0C in winter. The number of sunny days is about 90%, the snow is dry and light that guarantees fast and at the same time comfortable skiing. The average thickness of the snow cover can reach about 150 cm. The VIIth Asian Winter Games successfully took place here in 2011.

The main sights: Abai Opera and Ballet Theatre, Astana Square, Panfilov Park, Wooden Cathedral, the War Memorial, the Museum of folk instruments, Republic Palace, A. Kasteev State Art Museum, Republic Square, the Monument of Independence, the Central State Museum.
